Who We Are
We are Sam & Kevin, thirty-somethings that took the plunge into rural living about 5 years ago when we relocated to beautiful Prince Edward County. It was here we spent our first weekend getaway while dating, taking in an Irish/Scottish festival and staying at the Waring House. We didn’t know it at the time but something stuck with us about this place and now we are here to stay!
Our homestead is set near the back of approximately 9.5 acres, of gently south sloping land, with a big front porch from which to sit and view the property. For years we knew there was something destined for this former hay field, we just hadn’t found the right match:
- planted nearly 100 noble grape vines but the upkeep was never ending, and not all that much fun!
- tried our hands at pumpkins but without proper irrigation we only ever got one – about the size of a tennis ball!
- planned out an entire eco-wildflower farm, even seeded some patches but the grasses won out
It wasn’t until Christmas 2008 while the family sat around the dinner table did alpacas first get mentioned. Having never really heard of these creatures before we did some research and found many ‘cute & cuddly’ and ‘warm & fuzzy’ pictures of these animals. We scheduled some farm visits and upon first site, we knew what was destined to pronk around on our awaiting land! So our adventure has begun and you can follow-along and participate via this website, and perhaps we will see you on the ranch in the future!
