Happy Birthday to our newest Cria
So we were out today getting some local cheese & garlic and we left wondering if our girl Azul was going to be having here cria today. Now a little history behind this pregnancy. We had no idea until June that Azul was infact pregnant. Azul is a BEW (Blue eyed white) as a BEW there is a chance of infertility as well as deafness. Azul is indeed deaf but as it turns out not infertile. Some alpaca breeders would frown on the breeding of a BEW and it was discussed time and time again before we even brought her home. In the end we figured we would let nature take its course and bred her to Patch a couple times but nothing seemed to take in the early breedings so we figured she was also infertile.
One cool night while we were constructing our duck barn which was in the middle of the girls and boys pasture. Now throughout the day we had been in and out of the house our Herdsire Patch had been observing and had decided while we were busy feeding he would take that moment to see if he too could use the doors in the duck house. “Patch is in the girls side” was what we heard. As we hurried to move our girls he was lucky enough to corner Azul being that we had come to the conclusion that she was infertile we made sure we got the other girls locked down on the otherside before we interjected between Patch and Azul. Well to make a long story short, it turns out she is very fertile and has given birth to our 3rd cria of the 2010 season. Welcome Kingston and brown big boy born 2:00pm August 15, 2010.
