Martin Smit and Meghan Balogh
Martin Smit and Meghan Balogh have been playing music in Eastern Ontario together for 13 years, and have several decades of combined musical experience in many disciplines. As a duo they play a mix of Irish tunes and songs from Celtic, folk and blues traditions at venues around Eastern Ontario. They also perform for traditional Irish ceili dances with local Irish piper Ian Leslie.
Martin and Meghan are two members of the four-piece Prince Edward County-based Celtic folk band, Seventh Town.
Singer, guitarist and keyboardist, Martin Smit brings rich vocals and wit to the stage. Martin co-founded the Scottish folk band, Killiecrankie, performing at numerous folk festivals and featured regularly on CBC Radio's Max Ferguson Show. He studied finger-style guitar from legendary Mose Scarlett and Rick Fielding and was president of the Windsor Folk Music Society. Martin continues to be active on the folk music scene as the lead singer for Seventh Town and playing for ceili dances throughout the region.
Meghan Balogh spent years studying classical piano and violin before delving into the world of Irish fiddle music. She grew up immersed in folk music, and currently plays fiddle and sings as a member of bands in Kingston and Prince Edward County including Seventh Town, The Gertrudes and No Great Mischief. She can be found playing for Irish ceili dances around eastern Ontario with the Seventh Town Ceili Band, and as a fixture with Kingston's Irish session.
